Rockies 10, Mariners 4: Colorado Ends Spring on a High Note

With their 10-4 win today against the Seattle Mariners in Albuquerque the Colorado Rockies ended 2010 Cactus League play with a 17-13-3 record. Jorge De La Rosa pitched five shutout innings to get the win (3-1), striking out five and giving up five hits.

The big story, though, was the prodigious power the Rockies showed off in this game. Colorado smacked four home runs (Jason Giambi, Brad Hawpe, Ian StewartBrad Eldred), two triples (Jay Payton, Johnathan Herrera), and four doubles (Carlos Gonzalez, Seth Smith, Miguel Olivo, Clint Barmes) as part of their 16 hit onslaught. Hawpe, Payton, Smith, and Stewart all had multi-hit games. Let's hope that the offensive prowess carries over to Miller Park in Milwaukee on Monday afternoon.

With the notable exception of Manuel Corpas, who gave up three runs in his one inning, the pitching (especially Team Bed and Bath Coordinator Joe Beimel) looked very solid in an extreme hitting environment. The Rockies still have yet to announce the final member of their bullpen, but if I were in charge I'd be very comfortable putting Beimel in that role.

Also of note is that the Rockies continued their sloppy defense, making two errors (including Barmes' 7th of the spring). Hopefully that doesn't carry over into the regular season.

Box Score

It was a fairly slow game thread to end Spring Training. Thanks to those who participated!
