Brandon Durden was a tough-luck lose last night, allowing two runs in the second. He completed six innings with only that blemish. Taylor Buchholz pitched an inning and allowed two hits. Travis Metcalf went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Tulsa and the Texas League had the night off.
Modesto and the California League had no games on the schedule.
Asheville, W 4-3 (12 innings)
Chris Balcom-Miller made it into the seventh inning without allowing any runs to score. He struck out six and had a 9-3 GO-FO. But then Balcom-Miller ran into some trouble in the seventh. After a single and a walk, Balcom-Miller left the game in the arm of Rhett Ballard. After a single loaded the bases Ballard got the second out of the inning, but also allowed a run to score on the play. Then Chris Wade doubled on a ground ball to left field and tied the game.
Starter Dan Perkins made his second relief appearance of the season and struck out five over three extra innings to pick up the win. In the bottom of the 12th, Nolan Arenado and Joseph Sanders hit back-to-back singles. Orlando Sandoval, who went 3-for-3 with a solo homer in the second) then singled in Arenado to win the game.
