LOS ANGELES DODGERS (26-21, 2 GB, 2nd NL WEST)
2010 Record vs. Rockies: 2-1
The Dodgers welcomed the Rockies into Dodger Stadium during the weekend of May 7-9 after losing a series to Milwaukee and promptly took 2 of 3 from the Rockies (who were in the midst of a tough west coast swing which saw them face the Giants, Padres, and Dodgers in one trip), despite being outscored 13-8. Los Angeles took game one of the series after getting to Esmil Rogers early and Matt Daley late. The Rockies' bats performed well in that game and that carried over to game two, which saw Colorado blank the Dodgers 8-0 behind a strong pitching performance by rookie Jhoulys Chacin and one of many rough outings that Charlie Haeger had. In this one, he allowed two hits, three walks, and five runs and did not even record an out. Things turned around nicely for the Dodgers, who became the only team to beat Ubaldo Jimenez in 2010 the next day, beating the Rockies 2-0 behind a great pitching performance by Clayton Kershaw. He pitched eight innings of two-hit ball while striking out nine. This particular game seemed to finally kickstart the Dodgers' season; they were 13-17 entering the contest, and proceeded to win eight straight and 11 out of 12 after the big victory over baseball's best pitcher. Offensively, the Dodgers were led by the now-injured Andre Ethier, who continued his onslaught against Colorado's pitching with five hits in the first two games. However, he went hitless in the finale. Jamey Carroll managed four hits, and Russell Martin had three - one of which was a home run off of Matt Daley in the final game of the series. It was the Dodgers' only long ball in the three games.
