Friday Pebble Report: Dex is Bored at AAA

New, comments

AAA Colorado Springs,
 L 7-12  (28-31, 3rd, 2.5 GB)

Esmil Rogers (0-0, 3.86) (2003, DR) is doing nothing to convince the front office to give him a roster spot.  Six days after allowing five runs in four innings on his return to AAA, the Las Vegas 51s (Blue Jays) jumped on him for 9 runs on ten hits and two home runs in 4.1 IP.  September callup hopeful Edgmer Escalona (2006, VZ) wasn't any better, giving up the final three runs in a 10-run fifth.  Let's hope the parent club pitchers do better against the big league 51s tonight.

On the bright side, Dexter Fowler (2004, 14th round) walked and was a home run shy of the cycle (all left-handed) and is now sporting a studly .459/.565/.730 line.  Just like Chris Iannetta, Dex is bored at AAA.  Matt Reynolds (2007, 20th round) struck out the side in his lone inning and Huston Street (2009, trade) worked a scoreless inning.

AA Tulsa, W 7-3 - (25-31, 3rd, 8.5 GB)

Wilin Rosario (2006, DR) collected three hits including his eighth home run of season, raising his average to .277, good for second among Tulsa regulars. Charles Blackmon (2008, 2nd round) hit an opposite field home run for his first round-tripper of the season and  Keith Weiser (2006, 3rd round) tossed a quality start - 6 IP, 3 R (two earned) - for the victory.

Single-A recaps after the jump.

High-A Modesto, W 5-4 - (32-27, 2nd, 4.0 GB)

The Nuts reversed their fortune from a night before, coming from behind with two-run innings twice after the fourth inning to take a one run lead.  The last one came in the critical ninth, turning a one run loss into a one run win.  The clutch runs came from a guy who hadn't recorded a hit since May 28.  Ryan Peisel (2008, 12th round) hit the game-deciding home run, which followed a two-out pinch-hit walk by Tim Wheeler (2009, 1st round).  It was his second home run of the game - and season.   Jordan Pacheco (2007, 9th round) also recorded two hits to raise his average to .340.

Ethan Hollingsworth (2008, 4th round) pitched a solid game for a no decision, allowing three runs (two earned) in seven innings.  It was a solid rebound for Hollingsworth, who had allowed no more than three runs in his first nine starts before surrendering nine over his past two.

Low-A Asheville,  L 1-2 -  (25-35, 5th, 10.5 GB)

Chris Balcom-Miller (0-3, 3.52) (2009, 6th round) can't buy a break in Asheville. His offense has scored a grand total of one run in his last two starts, both losses, and hasn't given him more than 4 runs of support in any of his six starts.  Last night, CBM allowed just three hits, struck out eight and walked none in seven stellar innings, yet his first victory still eluded him.  Two of the hits followed a hit batter in the sixth, resulting in the only two runs by the Intimidators. As part of his three hits, Eliezer Mesa (2008, DR) drove in Orlando Sandoval (2006, DR) for the Tourists' lone run.  Delta Cleary Jr (2008, 37th round) played his second game of the season and went 0-for-3.

Greg Reynolds (2006, 1st round) will pitch tonight in his second rehab start.  He is scheduled to go two innings before Cory Riordan (2007, 6th round) takes over.
