Colorado Springs, W 5-4
The Sky Sox scored four of their five runs ion the second inninng. Kazuo Matsui started the scoring in the second inning with a two-run triple and then Omar Quintanilla immediately followed with the second triple of the inning to score Matsui. Jay Payton drove in the fourth run of the inning.
Alan Johnson allowed four runs over five innings, and then the bullpen came Portland in check. Edgmer Escalona, Josh Muecke, Alan Johnston, and Matt Reynolds held Portland to two hits over the last four innings of the game. Reynolds struck out two on the way to his third save of the season.
Tulsa and the Texas League had the night off.
Modesto, W 10-5
Thomas Field drove in four of Modesto's runs on a grand slam in the first inning. The other RBI were spread out among Jimmy Cesario (two doubles), Tim Wheeler, Ben Paulsen, Ryan Peisel, and Beau Seabury. David Christensen walked twice, scored twice, and stole two bases.
Rob Scahill went six innings and allowed four runs. He walked four and struck out seven. Rex Brothers went two innings, allowed an unearned run, walked two and struck out three.
Asheville, W 6-3
The Tourists poured it on in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring three runs in each inning. Tyler Massey and Joey Wong each drove in a run in the fifth, and Massey scored the third run of the inning on a wild pitch. In the sixth, Jose Gonzalez doubled in two, and Wong hit a double that drove in Gonzalez.
Tyler Matzek struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings. He also allowed three runs on five hits and three walks. Two runs came on a sixth-inning homer. Leuris Gomez struck out three in 1 1/3 innings.
Tri-City, L 4-11
Yeah, about Parker Frazier. . . .eight runs allowed in 1 1/3 innings. Brad McAtee relieved Frazier and struck out four. Tyler Trice followed by allowing a run in 2 2/3 innings and struck out three. Chandler Laurent hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh.
Casper, W 9-1
Tyler Gagnon threw six shutout innings and scattered five hits. Ricardo Ferrer picked up the save by pitching the last three innings of the game. He struck out three and allowed a run on a homer. Corey Dickerson (two hits, one RBI), Jordan Ballard (three hits, two RBI), Robert De La Cruz (three hits/one triple, three RBI), and Anthony Aguilera (two-run homer) paced the Ghosts' offense last night.
