With the 47th selection in the draft, a supplemental first round pick the Rockies received as compensation for failing to sign Jason Marquis, the team selected California right hand pitcher Peter Tago. Tago's smooth delivery and low 90's fastball with movement has drawn raves, and he's considered a very projectable pick that could potentially grow into a key part of a big league rotation.
While some may have felt that the Rockies took first round pick Kyle Parker a little early, the same can't be said of Tago, who many felt could be a late first round pick and was ranked as the 36th best player heading into the draft according to Baseball America. Tago hails from Dana Hills high school and is committed to Cal State Fullerton, but is considered signable.
