Wednesday Pebble Report: Jhoulys Chacin Shines On The Mound

Jhoulys Chacin threw seven scoreless innings and allowed three hits, all singles. He walked two and struck out six. Scott Rice allowed three runs and didn't record an out in the eighth. Andrew Johnston allowed three runs, but recorded an out. One of those runs scored as an inherited runner when Franklin Morales entered the contest. He also walked three but didn't allow any other runs.

Eric Young Jr. drove in two and went 2-for-4 with a double. Johnny Herrera, Chris Nelson, and Kazuo Matsui each drove in a run. Jay Payton drove in Johnny Herrera in the bottom of the ninth to win the game.

Tulsa had the night off.

Modesto, L 3-6
Parker Frazier ran into trouble in the fourth and sixth innings as he got charged with two runs and five runs, respectively. However, all three runs in the sixth came with one out and Frazier out of the game. Stephen Dodson entered the game with the bases loaded, walked in a run, and then allowed a two-run single. Frazier struck out eight. Casey Weathers pitched the final two-thirds of the game and put zeroes across his line in the box score.

Joe Sanders hit his first homer in Modesto, a two-run shot in the eighth.

Asheville, W 2-1 (14 innings)
Ryan Cavan drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh, which was followed in the top of the eighth by a Jared Clark RBI. It was a scoreless contest before those half innings and for quite awhile after them. In the top of the 14th, Delta Cleary struck out on a wild pitch and wound up on first base. Cleary moved over to second on a Helder Velazquez sac bunt and then scored on a Tyler Massey triple.

Nicholas Schnaitmann allowed a run in 6 2/3 innings and struck out two. Rhett Ballard and Paul Bargas held Augusta hitless for the next 2 2/3 innings before Coty Woods allowed four hits in 2 2/3 innings. Leuris Gomez pitched a scoreless 14th inning and Sheng-An Kuo pitched the 14th for his 18th save.

Tri-City had the night off.

Casper, W 12-4
Rafael Ortega hit a two-run double in the second inning and got another RBI in the fourth when he reached on a force attempt that ended up with a throwing error. Corey Dickerson drove in the first run of the game in the first inning. He stole a base, his sixth of the season. Brett Tanos went 1-for-4 with two RBI, and Cristhian Adames scored twice and drove in two. Jordan Ballard cleared a loaded diamond with a double in the eighth.

Alving Mejias allowed two runs on six hits and a walk in six innings. Kyle Hancock walked one and struck out one in the ninth inning.
