Know Your Foe #48: Dodgers look to play spoiler, recapture success vs. Rockies

LOS ANGELES DODGERS (72-75, 11 GB, 4th in NL West)

2010 Record vs. Rockies: 7-5

Last Series vs. Rockies: August 27-29 (L 1-2)

The Rockies finally exorcised their demons against the Dodgers by taking their first series over the Bums since mid-2008. After Clayton Kershaw corralled the Rockies in the first game of the series (6 IP, 5 H, R, 2 BB, 6 K), Chad Billingsley and Ted Lilly were hit around on consecutive days. Those two starts were the real issue for the Dodgers, who lost the series despite scoring 14 runs (while allowing 17).

Recent series results: Split 2-2 at Houston, L 1-2 at San Francisco

Kershaw was terrific in his start at San Francisco, as he tossed a four-hit complete game shutout in the Dodgers' only win against the Giants. The offense was alarmingly putrid, as they scored just four runs and had only eight hits during the three-game series. In the game they won, they had just one hit. Andre Ethier homered in the second game of the series, while rookie infielder Russ Mitchell went yard in last night's game.

In the Houston series, the Dodgers needed to score some late runs in order to get their two victories. Aside from Kershaw's win over SF, the last L.A. starter to win a game is Billingsley, when he did so September 3rd. Since the start of the last series against the Rockies, the Dodgers have only had three wins from their starting rotation. They simply have not been playing well in either facet of the game for the better part of a month. Therefore, the Rockies must take advantage.

Friday-Sunday: 3-game series @ Dodger Stadium
