The start of the magic that is to be the season of 2011 will have to wait another day or so, as the Colorado Rockies lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks seven to six on Friday afternoon in their season opener. Ubaldo Jimenez took the loss, allowing six runs in his first start, one more than he allowed combined in his first six starts in 2010.
Carlos Gonzalez and Seth Smith each had three hits, Todd Helton and Jose Lopez each had two for the Rockies in the loss. Matt Reynolds took the loss in extra innings after allowing Gerardo Parra (a D-back whose defense probably prevented a couple of Rockies runs from scoring earlier in the contest) to score on a wild pitch that eluded Chris Iannetta.
The Rockies are 0-1.
