...If you have a pulse, you can beat the Mets! You know, unless you're the Marlins.
New York Mets (4-5, 3rd in the NL East)
2010 Record vs Colorado: 3-3
Last Series vs Rockies: August 10-12, 2010 (Rockies L 1-2)
After the Rockies took 2 of 3 in an April matchup in Coors Field, New York reared its apple-shaped head and continued its reign of terror over the Rockies. The series led off with Mike Pelfrey, Hisanori Takahashi, and Francisco Rodriguez shutting out the Rockies, despite a 1-run effort from Ubaldo Jimenez. The following game showed the Rockies beating up on the same Takahashi and Manny Acosta for 5 runs (along with the 1 they got off of Jonathon Niese) to coast in for a 6-2 victory that Jeff Francis got a No-Decision for. Despite a passable effort from Jason Hammel (7.0 IP, 4K, BB, 4ER) in the rubber match, Johan Santana went ahead and threw a complete-game 4-hitter, striking out 10 and walking 2. The team batted .186/.231/.237, striking out 24 times over those 3 games.
Last 2 Series Results: L 1-2 vs Washington, L 1-2 @ Philadelphia
Regardless of the outcome, the Mets batted remarkably decently over their past 2 series, posting a .296/.361/.361 line against the Phillies. Games 1 and 2 of the Nationals series, batting .234/.315/.438. Game 3, however, featured 17 strikeouts in its 11 innings of fervor. Jason Marquis - yes, THAT Jason Marquis, struck out 9 Mets batters, Tyler Clippard knocked down another 3, Chad Gaudin 2 of his own, Drew Storen another, and Sean Burnett 2. But hey, they managed 3 runs despite all them strikeouts - that's good, right? Jose Reyes showed up pretty well, notching 3 hits and going 3-for-5 on the day.
