It is about time the Rockies get on the field for their third game. By the time Jhoulys Chacin throws his first pitch tonight, every MLB will have played or starting playing their fourth game of the season. Meanwhile, Rockies fans have only seen two games for their team.
Tonight's match features young familiar foes. Budding superstar Clayton Kershaw goes for the Dodgers. He is just 23, but the Rockies have already faced him an MLB high 14 times, 7 times at Coors Field. Five of those fourteen came in 2010 - all Dodgers wins.
Chacin is no stranger to Los Angeles either, as he was the only Rockies starter to pitch in all six 2010 series vs. the Dodgers. The Rockies won three of those. Two of the three losses came against....Clayton Kershaw of course.
While the two are no mystery to the opposing team, there is no guarantee the hitters will find success against them with more familiarity. While Jhoulys earned a 2.87 ERA vs the Dodgers in 2010, he was at his best at the end of the season: Chacin allowed just 3 ER combined in his last three starts (1.35 ERA) vs. the Dodgers in 2010. Kershaw, meanwhile, has improved his control well enough that a team can now longer run him out of the game with patience by the sixth inning.
I'm jealous of everyone in Colorado today. This should be a gem. Line-ups and such after the jump.
Just for fun, here are the two pitchers against their opponents in their careers, only against batters with 10+ PA.
