2011 Colorado Rockies Game #40: Jonathan Sanchez vs. Ubaldo Jimenez

New, comments

A 162-schedule isn't a marathon. It's a marathon followed by a decathlon followed by an Iditarod. For all the dramatic swaying of emotions for Rockies fans so far, today's game essentially marks the one quarter mark of the season for the Colorado Rockies. By the end of that quarter mark, the Rockies could be in first place in the division once again after gaining and losing a four game lead already.

All it will take is a win behind Ubaldo Jimenez, which was a given at this point last year. The winless Ubaldo will get a rematch of his April 19 start against the San Francisco Giants and Jonathan Sanchez. That day marked Ubaldo's return from the disabled list, his first loss, the Rockies' first series loss of the season, and the origin of much worry in Rockies country.

There is no better time to symbolically turn that around than this afternoon, when a win means a series sweep of the rival Giants, a reclamation of first place, and hopefully, the return to form of a lost and wandering Ubaldo.

Since Pablo Sandoval homered off Jimenez in the first inning of his first game back April 19, Ubaldo has been wicked good in all but one area.

In his last 23.2 IP, Ubaldo Jimenez has struck out 28 and allowed just 14 hits and one home run.

Unfortunately, he has also walked 21. If he can tone down his wildness, his stuff is still dominant.

Lineups and goodies under the fold.
