It is time to celebrate for Rockies fans! Tonight is the final game of the month of May! Colorado will try to end a rancid 8-20 May with a win tonight against Ted Lilly and the Dodgers.
Clayton Mortensen started the season by allowing just one earned run in 16.1 IP, leading many Rockies fans to clamor for him to take over the struggling Esmil Rogers' spot in the rotation. He did, by virtue of an injury to Rogers. Since then, he has seen his ERA jump from 0.55 to 2.83 in three starts. While not being quite as dominant, he has worked at least six innings and allowed no more than four runs in all four starts this season. That's acceptable even for a fifth starter, though the Rockies might just need a shutout from him.
Ted Lilly signed a quick 3-year $33mil contract this past offseason after a fantastic two month stint with Los Angeles after being acquired from the Cubs. His production has not quite matched the deal thus far. Despite the best walk rate in his career, his ability to strike out batters has gone by the wayside, leaving him vulnerable.
