AAA Colorado Springs - W 12-9 (27-33, 2nd, 9.0 GB)
The Sky Sox and the almighty Security Service Field joined forced early last night, and the result was magical. Willy Taveras (2011, MiLB FA), #25 PuRP Cole Garner (2003, 26th round), Ian Stewart (2003 1st round), Josh Fields (2011 MiLB FA), Brad Jacobs (2011, MiLB FA) (twice) and Brad Emaus (2011, trade)all hit home runs, five of those coming in the first two innings. That sounds fun. Emaus actually fell a single shy of the cycle. Edgmer Escalona (2005, VZ FA) allowed four runs in an inning of relief, Eric Stults (2011, MiLB FA) and Josh Roenicke (2011, waivers) allowed two runs in an inning, and #27 PuRP Bruce Billings (2007, 30th round) got the win despite giving up a run in his inning of work.
AA Tulsa Off Day (28-27, t-1st)
The Drillers had a travel day, moving on from Tulsa to Springfield to play the Cardinals. Rob Scahill (2009, 8th round) will start the four game set in three days tonight at 6:07MDT, opposed by Maikel Cleto, who you might know as the guy who served up the third home run in Aubrey Huff's 3 HR barrage last week.
High-A Modesto L 4-7 (28-29, 4th, 12.0 GB)
Nick Schnaitmann (2008, 22nd round) had another poor outing, getting chased in the third after allowing four runs on eight hits. He walked three, struck out zero and tossed two wild pitches. In his ten starts this season, he has allowed runs than innings pitched in seven of them, and he has recorded walks than strikeouts in eight starts. Kent Matthes (2009, 4th round) doubled twice, Mike Zuanich (2008, 28th round) tripled, and Josh Rutledge (2010, 3rd round), perhaps discouraged by the Rockies' run on shortstops high in the draft, struck out four times.
Low-A Asheville L 0-2 (28-31, t-3rd, 4.5 GB)
It was bullpen start day for both the Tourists and Sand Gnats, though the final score wouldn't indicate it. Neither starter pitched into the fifth, with Asheville's Josh Hungerman (2009, 17th round) allowing one run in four innings of work. Joe Mikulik's line-up produced eight base-runners, but none of them reached the plate. Dustin Garneau (2009, 19th round) did his part, pelting three hits, including a triple.
DSL Rockies Postponed (3-3, 5th, 1.5 GB)
The Dominican club's match-up with the Padres was postponed by rain, their second consecutive game postponed and third in the last five days. As such, they are still winless in June after starting the season 3-0 in May. They will host the Reds at 8:30am MDT today.
