Thursday Pebble Report: Tim Wheeler Hits Texas League Leading 15th Home Run

AA Tulsa - L 3-5  (28-28, 2nd, 9.5 GB)

The only stateside Rockies affiliate in action yesterday fell to .500 with a loss in the series opener to Springfield.  Rob Scahill (2009, 8th round) posted a quality start, allowing three runs in six innings on nine hits.  #16 PuRP Tim Wheeler (2009, 1st round) 15th home run and singled, #23 PuRP Ben Paulsen (2009, 3rd round) doubled and singled, and #24 PuRP Thomas Field (2008, 24th round) singled twice after starting at shortstop for the injured #11 PuRP Hector Gomez (2006, DR FA).

DSL Rockies - L 0-13   (3-4, 6th, 2.5 GB)

This would not have been a fun game to attend.  The Rockies got outscored 13 to 0, outhit 15 to 3, allowed an 11-run inning, and even committed more errors than the recorded hits.  Just disastrous.  Left-hander Helmis Rodriquez, who turns 17 tomorrow, started the game and actually pitched well, striking out four, walking one and allowing one run in four innings.  18-year-old Alvin Herrera allowed three runs in one inning, and 18-year-old Jose Medina recorded just one out while permitting eight runs (six earned) to score.

AAA Colorado Springs -  Off Day  (27-33, 2nd, 9.0 GB)

The Sky Sox had an off day and didn't have to travel anywhere.  They open a four game series in Colorado Springs tonight vs. the first place Reno Aces (Diamondbacks).  In other Sky Sox news, left-handed starter Josh Muecke has been released.

High-A Modesto Off Day (28-30, 4th, 13.0 GB)

The Nuts spent the day driving back to Modesto from Visalia.  They will start a series against the Giants affiliate tonight at 8:05MDT.  Daniel Perkins gets the ball in the opener, and Saturday's opposing starter has been announced:  Barry Zito.

Low-A Asheville Off Day (28-31, t-3rd, 4.5 GB)

The Tourists were off, traveling from Tulsa to Charleston for a quick three-game series against the RiverDogs (Yankees).  MiLB strikeout leader Edwar Cabrera gets the start tonight at 5:05 MDT, opposed by a fellow named Zach Nuding.
