Alas, it was not a good day for Colorado's minor league affiliates, as both lost playoff games.
The Nuts were at home trying to win their way into the Cal League semifinals, but instead they fell flat on their face. Stockton scored two runs in the third and then six runs in the fourth, and just like that Modesto was down 8-0. Parker Frazier was not at his best, allowing six of the runs in 3.1 IP on five hits to get the loss (0-1). Josh Rutledge went 2-4 with a RBI, but the initial deficit was far too great to climb back from.
It was the Dust Devils' only home game in the Northwest League's best of 3 championship series, but their fate was similar to their High A comrades. Vancouver went up 3-0 after the first and Tri-City wasn't able to catch up. Fortunately, Tri-City still has a chance to win the title, but they must win two road games in Canada to take the crown. Ben Alsup was the loser in this one, allowing all six Vancouver runs on eight hits in six innings pitched. The Dust Devils offense managed only five hits in the game, only one of which went for extra bases.
Game 2 is tonight in Canada. If Tri-City loses, tomorrow will be the last Pebble Report of the year.
