Despite their best efforts, the Tri City Dust Devils' season came to an end on Sunday, losing in sad fashion to the Vancouver Canadians. After such a promising pitching season, the game ultimately came down to the hurlers being unable to do their jobs well, and the defense unable to back them up properly.
Starter Tyler Gagnon only made it an out into the 5th inning before being pulled. Gagnon struck out 4 and walked only 1, but 3 runs crossed, 2 unearned thanks to errors by SS Taylor Featherston and CF Brian Humphries.
Ultimately, those three runs would have been sufficient, as the Dust Devils were only able to plate 2 baserunners, but Vancouver saw it fit to tack on another 6 runs over the remainder of the game, including a 5-run 7th, to seal the season for the Dust Devils and win the Northwest League title.
The Devils finished at an overall 44-32 record (.579), by far the best mark in the Rockies' franchise.
