Modesto, W 2-1
The Nuts kept alive their trip to the postseason with a seventh-inning to remember. Nolan Arenado doubled to left field to start the inning. After Angelys Nina struck out, 1B Jared Clark also doubled to left field, scoring Arenado. Then with DH Dallas Tarleton at the plate, Clark stole third base and scored when catcher Ryan Lipkin threw the ball into left field.
With the 2-0 lead, the Nuts held onto dear life in the eighth inning. Starter Chad Bettis had left the game with two outs in the seventh inning, having scattered six hits and struck out nine. Isaiah Froneberger finished the seventh and came out for the eighth inning. After Lipkin grounded out to start the inning, Froneberger surrendered a solo shot to Mitch LeVier. Will Harris replaced Froneberger and struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
Michael Marbry provided a bit of drama in the ninth inning after putting the first two men down. A double to left field put the tying run in scoring position. A wild pitch moved the runner to third base, but Marbry struck out Anthony Aliotti to end the game. The series concludes tonight.
Casper, L 4-9
And so the Ghosts' season came to an end. The Nuts held a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning, but ended the frame down, 6-3. Geoff Parker and Brook Hart combined to allow four runs that inning, Hart allowing a three-run home run.
Second baseman Jose Rivera homered in the fifth inning, his first of the season. Carl Thomore took strike three in the bottom of the ninth to end the game and the season.
