Now is the time! In approximately three hours, our Colorado Rockies will formally take the field for the first time in 2012 as they go against their bitter (friendly?) rivals the Arizona Diamondbacks. It's slated to be a heck of a pitching matchup (although I'm sure neither guy will pitch much more than a couple of innings), as top prospects Trevor Bauer (D-Backs) and Drew Pomeranz (Rockies...duh) will take the hill for their respective clubs. It'll be a nice glimpse into the future for the two clubs and their fans. Since I'm pretty much just writing a preview for the game anyway, why not post the Rockies' lineup as well?
Dexter Fowler CF
Marco Scutaro 2B
Carlos Gonzalez LF
Troy Tulowitzki SS
Michael Cuddyer RF
Tyler Colvin DH
Ramon Hernandez C
Nolan Arenado 3B
Ben Paulsen 1B
Drew Pomeranz P
In the event a game thread doesn't get posted, feel free to use this in lieu of it. This momentous event can be heard on KOA 850, as well as here.
Patrick Saunders has a write up of the intra-squad game that took place at SRFaTS yesterday, including some good quotes from pitchers Jeremy Guthrie and Jaime Moyer. In other news, the Rockies customarily agreed to pre-arb contracts with about half the roster today in time for their real ST debut (via our friend Rafael Rojas Cremonesi's Twitter feed).
Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that MLB officially announced the institution of a new 10-team playoff format yesterday. Dan Szymborski at ESPN posted an Insider-only piece on the winners and losers of the new format. While the Rockies aren't profiled as either, their playoff odds have increased from 31% to 44%. Wow.
In some non-Rockies news, the division rival Padres have reportedly agreed on a contract extension with young outfielder/budding star Cameron Maybin. Maybin put up a 4.7 WAR last year, and very much looked the part of the player he has been touted to become throughout his career. He still has improvements to make, but he's yet another promising young player in a division full of them.
