Transactions Notes 4/20/12 - 4/26/12

Christian Friedrich's injury has opened the door for Tyler Chatwood, above, to return to starting.

The only MLB level transaction this week was the recall and subsequent re-option of Zach Putnam for the double header. The new CBA allows teams to recall a 26th player for double headers, but the roster returns to 25 the following day. This was Putnam's Rockies debut, after spending last September up with the Indians. Putnam's option had already been burned this year, so there is nothing of relevance regarding his return to the minors.

Speaking of optional assignments, Alex White's optional assignment became official this week. It was his first used assignment, meaning he has two remaining for future seasons.

The week began on a sad note with Christian Friedrich hitting the disabled list with a hamstring injury. Friedrich's positioning to contribute to the Rockies rotation in the near future increased dramatically since his good start to the season, so this setback is unwelcome, but hopefully not particularly significant in the long run. Reliever Jared Wells was activated from the disabled list to take his place on the roster, and Tyler Chatwood fits into the rotation in Friedrich's spot.

Brendan Harris, who has been in Extended Spring Training since the second day of the minor league season, returned to the Sky Sox as Wilkin Castillo hit the DL with a ribcage strain. Reliever Tyler Johnson, also in EST, was assigned to the Sky Sox, but has yet to be activated from the Reserve List.

Drillers, Nuts, Tourists after the jump.

No Drillers transactions this week. They still have not replaced Drew Pomeranz' spot on the roster, thanks to off days allowing them to operate with a four man rotation.

Just three days after being reassigned to EST to make room for Rafael Ortega on the Nuts roster, Juan Crousset was returned back to the team for a second stint when reserve outfielder Scott Robinson his the DL. Catcher Dallas Tarleton became the first player this season to be placed on the infamous Temporarily Inactive List which means, to remind you, that he is on a temporary leave from the team. It could last a few days or a few weeks, or in the case of Eider Torres in 2010, several months. Reliever Josh Hungerman became the seventh player to hit the Nuts disabled list in this young season. Tarleton and Hungerman both saw their roster spots filled by relievers: Juan Perez was promoted from Asheville and Adam Jorgenson, looking to rebound from a terrible 2011, was reassigned from EST to take the closer's role from Kurt Yacko.

No transactions aside of Perez moving to Modesto. His roster spot has yet to be filled.
