Moscoso fails to Duda/Wright-thing, Rockies fall to Mets

See, all Dex ever needed was for me to call him a lollygagger to improve his D. I'll just wait by my phone for the Rockies to tell me they'll pay my consultancy fee.

Lucas Duda and David Wright combined to knock in six of seven Mets runs and along with Ruben Tejada and Daniel Murphy formed a four man core to a New York lineup that dogged Rockies pitchers in a 7-5 defeat Saturday. The four, hitting second through fifth for the Mets, went a combined 11 of 18 scored six, and chased newly called up Rockies starter Guillermo Moscoso after five innings. With such a wide patch of the opposing lineup that he was generally ineffective against, Moscoso struggled to put up clean innings, starting in the second when Duda drove a two run home run to deep right, and continuing with a run in the third on a Wright double, and three more in the fifth when both Wright and Duda drove in runs with singles.

On offense, the Rockies did have one big inning to give themselves a lead briefly: a three run fourth keyed by an RBI double from Todd Helton and RBI singles from Michael Cuddyer and Moscoso. The Rockies also scored one in the first thanks to a Marco Scutaro created run, as the second baseman singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error by Mets catcher Josh Thole, and then subsequently scored on a Troy Tulowitzki groundout. However, besides that run and the big fourth inning, the bats failed to gain the same kind of traction they had the night before when they scored 18. From the fifth inning to two outs into the ninth, the Rockies registered just one hit (a Helton single) off Mets starter Dillon Gee and their bullpen. In the ninth, a final last gasp via a Dexter Fowler home-run and a Tyler Colvin triple made things dramatic, but Jason Giambi lined out deep to center to end the threat and the game.
