We all know how bad Jeremy Guthrie has been this season, but his road numbers provide a small sliver of hope (4.23 ERA). However, a lot of that is in direct correlation to BABIP, as a lot of the peripherals have been similar. Being a flyball pitcher doesn't bode well against guys like Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera, but Comerica is a fairly large park, so who knows. That's the point of the three sentences of drivel I just wrote - we don't know anything about anything. Max Scherzer leading all qualified AL pitchers in K/9 but having a 5.76 ERA is just more proof of that.
So, while the odds are certainly not in their favor, the Rockies could still pull off an unexpected series victory with a win today. It doesn't have to be pretty, it just has to happen. 'Shit happening' is what makes baseball so great.
