Even though the Rockies are sending a rookie pitcher to the mound who hasn't made a start since May 7th, they still figure to have the advantage in today's pitching matchup, which is something that can't be said very often these days. Pomeranz owns a 101 ERA+ (the only Rockies starter who is above average this season), and while Wells' figure of 110 trumps that, he's only made one start and it came against the Astros, who do not pose the type of offensive threat that the Rockies do when they're on.
Unfortunately for the Rockies, they don't seem to be on after last night's six-hit effort - three of which came in the eighth inning alone. Their bats have been silenced by mediocre pitchers more than once this season, so they'll need to jump on Wells early to avoid any sort of confidence boost for the opposing pitcher.

For whatever reason, All-Star Carlos Gonzalez is not in the lineup today. Yippee.
