Christian Friedrich had shown significant improvement in his two recent starts at Coors Field. Tuesday night, it looked to be more of the same. In his first four innings, Friedrich had allowed three singles, one walk and one run on a solo homer by Andrew McCutchen. Then in the fifth, he faceplanted on the mound in a magnificent mushroom cloud of masochistic "pitching."
Friedrich managed to walk both Mike McKenry and Clint Barmes to lead off the inning, a dim harbinger of the head-on collision to come. After a successful sac bunt and RBI ground out, the Pirates smacked three consecutive singles off the Rockies lefty, the last two after Friedrich's 75th pitch. Oh, and there was a run-scoring wild pitch in there too.
Dexter Fowler hit 3rd for the 7th time in his career, the most recent coming one month ago today in Detroit. He singled twice and walked twice, Josh Rutledge hit his first career triple, and Adam Ottavino worked two hitless innings in relief.
Lastly, for something that will blow your mind....
2012 Wilin Rosario - .255/.291/.535, .829 OPS, .343 wOBA, 105 wRC+
2012 Mike McKenry - .255/.336/.518, .854 OPS, .359 wOBA, 127 wRC+.
Huh.
