Thursday Rockpile: Rockies thinking only about Rockies, which has to be kind of depressing

Marco Scutaro isn't paying attention to trade rumors despite being one of several Rockies players on the trading block. Wilin Rosario isn't paying attention to his rookie of the year status. All I can think about these two stories is how awful it must be for Rockies players who feel obligated to pay attention to the team rather than their individual storylines, because the team storylines continue to spew noxious fumes everywhere. Other notes from those two links include other trade rumor updates around Rafael Betancourt, Wil Nieves and Ramon Hernandez in the Denver Post link, and updates on Chris Nelson, Jhoulys Chacin and a couple other notes with the mlb.com link.

The Rockies received a compensation pick in yesterday's inaugural competitive balance draft lottery, albeit luck wasn't entirely on the Rockies side, as their pick comes after the second round, while already relatively healthy teams such as Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Arizona were able to get compensation picks after the first round. The projected value drop off from the first six comp picks to the Rockies group in the second six is considerable. That said, the team's comp pick in 2014 has a very good chance of being much more valuable given the team's current record.

Rockies pitching prospect Chad Bettis gave a Q and A with the athletics site of Texas Tech and says that he's looking at mid-August as a potential return date and throwing bullpens. He hasn't ruled out losing the season entirely, however, albeit it seems to me that he'd be a prime candidate for an Arizona Fall League slot.

The Rockies traded minor leaguer Dustin Molleken to the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters.

CBS Sports ranks the Rockies trade of Ubaldo Jimenez as #2 out of five deadline deals that didn't work since 2007. The statement that the Rockies end of this deal hasn't worked is premature, obviously.
