Colorado Springs 5, Sacramento 3
A trio of home runs -- two-run blasts each by Tim Wheeler and Chad Tracy and a solo shot by Andrew Brown -- accounted for all five runs by the Sky Sox, and all came with two outs. Wheeler has his first Triple-A home run in the books. Former Rockies prospect Bruce Billings allowed all three home runs and struck out seven in five innings.
Edwar Cabrera struck out 13 in 6.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits and two walks. A pretty successful Triple-A debut, no? Zach Putnam, though, gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth to lower the margin of victory to just two runs.
Corpus Christi 5, Tulsa 4
Coty Woods entered the bottom of the ninth with a 4-3 lead, but a Josh Rutledge fielding error and a Jonathan Villar home run later ended the Drillers' game in a 5-4 defeat.
Earlier in the game Rutledge hit his 11th home runs and finished the game 2-for-4. Angelys Nina, Corey Dickerson and Lars Davis also had two hits each. Dan Houston made the start and allowed three runs (one earned) while striking out seven over six innings. Houston allowed a two-out, two-run home run in the first inning to Jonathan Singleton after Nolan Arenado's throwing error on an Andrew Simunic-hit ball.
Lancaster 8, Modesto 7
The Nuts went down early to the JetHawks, 7-1 after two full innings of play, but they continued to fight back, though ultimately unsuccessful in that endeavor. Juan Gonzalez allowed six runs in one-plus inning, mostly on singles but also with the help of a wild pitch, a balk, and a Cristhian Adames fielding error. Craig Benningson allowed Gonzalez's sixth and final run when he replaced him in the sixth inning and then allowed two more himself.
Catcher Dallas Tarleton went 3-for-5 with two RBI, falling a home run short of the cycle. Rafael Ortega collected a double as part of his three hits and stole his 16th base of the season.
Lexington 6, Asheville 5
Asheville attempted to mount a comeback late in the game with a four-run eighth inning, but that left them down by one run, 6-5. Trevor Story started things off with a bases-loaded walk and then Will Swanner knocked in two on a single to right field. Harold Riggins reached on a throwing error, allowing Story to score the fourth run.
Ben Alsup allowed all six runs, but it was four-run bottom of the seventh inning that did him in. Delino DeShields Jr. hit a two-run home run off Alsup that inning. He finished with an 11-4 GO-FO.
Tri-City 7, Boise 5
Boise scored early, but Tri-City scored late and often to come away with the victory. Left fielder Francisco Sosa went 2-for-4 with five RBI. He hit a three-run home run in the four-run fifth inning and added the other two on a single in the eighth inning. He accounted for half of the team's hits in the game.
Starter Benjamin Hughes allowed five runs over the first two innings, but he managed to get through six innings. Chris Dennis and William Rankin combined for five strikeouts over the final three scoreless innings.
Orem 5, Grand Junction 3
Matthew Carasiti made third start for Grand Junction and did well until the fifth inning. He allowed a leadoff single before getting back-to-back out. However, with one man on base, Carasiti loaded the bases with back-to-back walks. Wade Hinkle singled in two runs, but a relay from David Dahl to Juan Ciriaco to Matthew Wessinger got Hinkle out at second base.
Jordan Mejia allowed three in 1/3 of an inning, mostly done in by walks and singles. Ryan Garvey doubled in the fifth inning and scored on Ben Waldrip's single a bit later.
DSL Padres 9, DSL Rockies 8
Angel Lezama started for the Rockies and allowed four runs in five inning, striking out 11. Hector Villarroel came in for the sixth inning and allowed four runs in 2/3 of an inning, though Angel Reyes allowed one to score as an inherited runner.
Left fielder Raimel Tapia, first baseman Henry Garcia and second baseman Miguel Dilone each had three hits.
