If Colorado had managed to win this game, it would have been a serious BABIP Luck Dragon victory. Of the Rockies' 12 hits in this one, only DJ LeMahieu's 3rd inning double was hit hard. The other 11 hits were a motley collection of seeing eye singles, infield hits, and bloopers. Five Rockies had 2 hits on the night, and 4 of them were among the top 5 hitters in the lineup. Heck, if Dexter Fowler weren't bunting with runners on 1st and 3rd and nobody out in the 5th, they might have pulled it out. After all, it seemed like every ground ball was finding a hole.
It appeared like Lady Luck was on the Rockies' side in this one, but all good things must come to an end, and this nice winning streak was certainly one of them. Still, this game was much more enjoyable to watch than many of the others that preceded it in 2012.
Outside of a mammoth Giancarlo Stanton homer and a high flyball off the bat of Jose Reyes that barely escaped Carlos Gonzalez's glove for a 3 run homer, the Marlins didn't muster much offense in the game. Besides the Reyes homer, Jeff Francis pitched 5 decent innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits, striking out 3. Josh Roenicke had an outing to forget in relief, first allowing the Stanton bomb and then two doubles to bring around the go-ahead run.
Don't fret though, the Rockies have the recently ascendant Tyler Chatwood going tomorrow evening against the former Dodger Nathan Eovaldi.
