Rockies' Comeback Falls Just Short In 5-4 Loss

Those pesky Padres kept to their winning ways in taking tonight's series opener 5-4. The Rockies had 9 hits in this one including 3 home runs, yet they only managed 4 runs in a losing effort. A lot of that is due to context -- Colorado had only 3 at bats with runners in scoring position in the game and went 0-3.

In any case, the Rockies fell behind 4-1 early but were able to claw their way back into the game in the end. Jordan Pacheco (3), Wilin Rosario (23), and Andrew Brown (2) provided the aforementioned homers (all solo), 2 in the 6th and 1 in the 9th. Both Rosario and Brown had 2 hits, while Pacheco drove in the other run on a groundout in the 3rd.

Once again, Alex White struggled to provide the Rockies with meaningful length, lasting only 3 2/3 innings and allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks. Of course, we should have known that the game was lost when Matt Reynolds entered in relief. Colorado is now 11-49 when Reynolds enters a game -- though 3 of those wins had come in the last 10 days.

After a poor start, the Rockies played well in this one. Let's see if they can sustain that production for 9 innings tomorrow night.
