Rockies 2012 Game #109: Jeff Francis vs. Chad Billingsley

3-0: 0
2-1: 6
1-2: 18
0-3: 7

These are the Rockies' records in three-game series this year. A Rockies win today puts the first entry into the favorable sweep column. The only series swept by the Rockies this season was the four game set against Major League Baseball's worst team, the Houston Astros, in late May.

Jeff Francis takes the mound tonight for the Rockies. It will be his first start against the Dodgers since September 28th, 2010, which happened to be Francis' final start in a Rockies uniform until he was re-signed midway through this season (he lasted three innings, allowing five runs on six hits in that particular game). After being the Rockies' best starting pitcher through most of June and July, Francis has struggled in three of his last four starts, particularly with allowing early home runs to the opposing team.

Chad Billingsley

#58 / Pitcher / Los Angeles Dodgers

Chad Billingsley has also yet to face the Rockies this season. His last starts against the Rockies were back to back at the end of August 2011, one of which featured an unhittable but wild Billingsley, the other of which featured a controlled but hittable one. This season, Billingsley has demonstrated the best control of his career by over a full walk per nine innings in 2012, but hits are up. Billingsley's last three starts have all been some degree of excellent.
