Arizona Fall League update: Rockies position players struggle, relievers shine in 8-1 loss

The two position players representing the Rockies in AFL play on Thursday didn't have the best day, but a pair of relievers stood out in the Rafters' loss.

Colorado Rockies prospects Kyle Parker and Cristhian Adames went a combined 0-for-8 at the plate in the Salt River Rafters' 8-1 loss to the Mesa Solar Sox in Arizona Fall League action on Thursday.

Parker flied out to right, grounded out and struck out twice in his start at designated hitter. Meanwhile, a ball hit off the bat of Adames scored the Rafters' only run of the game. The play was scored as an error on Oakland Athletics third base prospect Max Muncy.

Adames also grounded out to A's farmhand Addison Russell twice and lined into a game-ending double play.

The Rafters had just five hits -- three from St. Louis Cardinals farmhand James Ramsey -- against Washington Nationals pitching prospect Matt Purke and a host of others.

A pair of relievers also represented the Rockies in the game. Kraig Sitton, who did good work at High-A Modesto in 2013, pitched 1⅔ innings of perfect baseball. Double-A hurler Cole White took over for Sitton in the seventh and worked around a walk to toss a scoreless frame.

The Rafters will be back on the diamond on Friday at 1:35 p.m. MT against the Peoria Javelinas, who are comprised of prospects from the Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies and Kansas City Royals organizations.
