2013 Gold Gloves: Carlos Gonzalez wins for 3rd time

Rockies fans got to see Carlos Gonzalez put his foot back on the defensive pedal in 2013.

Carlos Gonzalez will now have three golden statues in his trophy case, as the Rockies' left fielder was awarded the Rawlins Gold Glove Award for the third time in his career, beating out Pittsburgh's rookie left-fielder Starling Marte,  and Mets Eric Young Jr.

After suffering injuries from multiple collisions in 2011, Gonzalez decided to be more conservative in the field in 2012.  His aggressiveness was noticeably restrained as Gonzalez withheld the elite arm, speed and defensive instincts he possessed.  Despite noticeable regressions defensively, Gonzalez was awarded with his second Gold Glove.

The conservative approach did not fully keep him on the field, as he missed 17 games due to injury in 2012.  That meant the real Carlos Gonzalez returned in 2013, diving, firing lasers and tracking down fly balls in the gaps. Contrary to last season, Gonzalez posted a season worthy of Gold Glove consideration, finishing second in both Total Runs Saved and Ultimate Zone Rating, trailing the rookie Starling Marte in both.

Gonzalez joins Todd Helton and Larry Walker among the Rockies who have earned three Gold Gloves in a Rockies uniform.
