2013 Gold Gloves: Two Rockies headline 2013 Rawlings Gold Glove Winners

The Rockies went two for three tonight - Carlos Gonzalez won his third Gold Glove in left field while Nolan Arenado became the 10th ever rookie (and first Rockies third baseman) to win a Gold Glove. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was a finalist at shortstop but was beaten out by the very deserving Andrelton Simmons of the Atlanta Braves.

The Colorado Rockies went two for three in the 2013 Rawlings Gold Glove awards tonight - Carlos Gonzalez won his third Gold Glove in left field while Nolan Arenado became the tenth ever rookie (and first Rockies third baseman) to win a Gold Glove. Meanwhile, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was a finalist at shortstop but was beaten out by the very deserving Andrelton Simmons of the Atlanta Braves.

Gonzalez beat out Starling Marte of the Pirates and Eric Young Jr (?!?) of the Rockies/Mets to win. Marte (second place) edged CarGo (third place) in the voting for the 2013 Fielding Bible Awards, but either would have been a fine choice.

Arenado, who placed second in the Fielding Bible voting to AL Gold Glove winner Manny Machado of the Orioles, was one of eight first time winners this year. While Arenado was clearly the most accomplished NL defender at third this season by the sabermetric defensive stats, the presence of left (Juan Uribe) and right (David Wright) coast candidates as well as Arenado's rookie status made his win a little surprising.
