Rockies first base prospect Kyle Parker doubled twice and scored a run and minor league infielder Cristhian Adames added a triple, a walk and two RBI in the Salt River Rafters' 12-6 loss to the Surprise Saguaros in Arizona Fall League play on Wednesday.
Parker also had an RBI hit in the Rafters' win on Tuesday and now boasts a SLG-heavy OPS of .757 in 57 AFL at-bats. Over the last 10 games, the 24-year-old slugger is hitting .293/.326/.537, but could use some better patience at the plate; he's struck out 11 times and walked only once in that span.
Adames, a 22-year-old Dominican shortstop, has played much more sparingly than Parker but has made the most of his opportunity, hitting .308/.349/.538 after his performance on Wednesday.
Rockies outfielder farmhand Tim Wheeler singled and walked on Wednesday, but has mostly struggled in 50 AFL at-bats, hitting .240/.345/.320.
No relievers from the organization appeared on Wednesday, but Dan Houston and Kraig Sitton each posted a scoreless session on the mound on Tuesday. Houston got four outs without allowing a hit in Salt River's 7-3 win over Mesa to improve his AFL ERA to 1.17. Sitton walked a pair of batters but escaped unscathed and now has a 9.95 ERA.
As a reminder, Parker and Tyler Matzek will participate in the AFL's Fall Stars Game on Saturday. The game will begin at 6 p.m. MT and will be shown on MLB Network and MLB.com.
