The Rockies (8-7) take on the Cubs (7-10) today at 2:05 MST at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona.
For the Rockies, Jorge De La Rosa will start as he looks to build on a promising performance in a rain shortened game against Kansas City last Friday in which the lefty worked 3 innings of one run ball while striking out 2 and walking one. He threw 50 pitches 28 of them from strikes in that start. De La Rosa said of the start, "I felt much better with my mechanics, more comfortable, today I knew what I was doing on the mound."
Also, expecting to pitch for the Rockies are Josh Outman and non-roster invitee Manuel Corpas. Corpas and Outman are both vying for spots in the bullpen.
Todd Helton was originally in the starting lineup today for the Rockies, but Troy Renck tweeted that he isn’t feeling well and won’t be playing.
For the Cubs Edwin Jackson is scheduled to start. Jackson was signed in the offseason by the Cubs to a four- year, $52 million dollar deal. He was somebody I hoped the Rockies would make a play on, but given his price tag I wasn’t surprised that we didn’t.
Lineups are as follows minus Helton.
