Jhoulys Chacin pitched 5 innings and got pounded for 10 hits and all 6 of the A's runs in the loss. It would have been nice to see Chacin look sharper before he takes the hill opening day, but we all know spring training numbers don't always translate to regular season numbers. Hopefully, Chacin pitches well this coming season and his difficult spring training is a distant memory. He did not give us much to get excited about though as he pitched to an 8.44 ERA.
The offense however has been sizzling. Dexter Fowler hit 2 HR's both off of A's starter Jarrod Parker and Troy Tulowitzki hit his second HR of the spring and finished the day 3-4 with 2 RBI's. Chris Nelson homered for the second time in three days and appears to have finally distanced himself from Nolan Arenado. But don't rule Arenado out just yet.
Adam Ottavino and Wilton Lopez both had scoreless appearances and Ottavino struck out 4 during his 1 and 2/3 innings.
The A's regulars all got one AB before being replaced by back ups or minor leaguers. Most of the damage done against Chacin was not done by the starters so maybe Chacin had a lapse of focus when they came out. Let's hope that's all it is for Chacin.
Tomorrow the Rockies take on the Brewers at 2:10 MT and Kyle Lohse will make his Brewers debut.
