SALT LAKE CITY -- Above all else, Walt Weiss just wants to keep his guys healthy.
"We're hoping for an uneventful game," Weiss quipped during the Rockies' batting practice session prior to their game against the Seattle Mariners at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
"We'll get our work in and get our guys a couple of at-bats, but we want to get through it without any issues," said Weiss. With the exception of Eric Young Jr., who will fill the designated hitter spot, the Rockies will trot out what figures to be their opening day lineup against Seattle's Brandon Maurer.
Jeff Francis takes the mound for the Rockies, and he'll try to put a cap on what has been a solid spring for the veteran southpaw. Francis enters the game with a 2.70 ERA and a K/BB ratio of better than 6-to-1. He will go up against what is likely the Mariners' starting squad, which features new acquisitions Kendrys Morales and Michael Morse.
A sold-out crowd of 15,500 is expected in Salt Lake City. All seats were sold out in a 43-minute span when they went on sale a few months ago, according to the Rockies' public relations department.
