Jorge De La Rosa showed some life in a meaningless Spring Training game that was ultimately cancelled due to rain with the Rockies up 3-1 against the Royals. Jorge completed three innings on the night, giving up a single earned run and striking out two batters. Most encouraging was his control as he didn't walk a batter and surrendered only a desolate hit in the first inning. The double by Anderson ended up scoring on a sacrifice fly by the Royals Billy Butler.

The Rockies started off scoring in the game when Eric Young walked in the bottom of the first and went to third on a Dexter Fowler double. A sacrifice fly by Helton scored Young and Dex was later erased when he was picked off at second base.

The Rockies loaded the bases in the third inning after a Reid Brignac single followed by Young getting plunked and Dex reaching on a fielders choice. Todd Helton earned his second RBI of the night on another sac fly scoring Brignac. Michael Cuddyer followed with an RBI of his own on a groundball to the left side scoring Young. Eric Young finished with a ninja line of zero at bats and two runs scored.

Former Rockie Jeremy Guthrie played a familiar game to Rockies fans, allowing three earned runs in four innings pitched. Guthrie lowered his Spring ERA to 7.50.

R.A. Dickey had a tough outing in the WBC allowing two runs to score in the first before giving up a two run bomb to Adrian Gonzalez in the third inning. Team USA threatened several times in the game, but ultimately stranded somewhere between 20 and 9,000 runners on the base paths.

The United States opens Pool play in the WBC with a 0-1 record. They trail Mexico which moves to a record of 1-1 and the 2-0 Italian team who defeated Canada earlier by the 10 run mercy rule.
