So, I guess Hyun-Jin Ryu is pretty good.
The Dodgers' rookie lefty from Korea stifled the Rockies offense, which scored 12 runs last night, holding them to just two runs and three hits in six innings of work. Ryu walked just two while striking out 12.
The two runs Ryu did allow came courtesy of Carlos Gonzalez's fifth home run of the season, a solo shot in the first, and an RBI double from Michael Cuddyer in the sixth. Those were the only two extra-base hits of the game for the Rockies, who had just five hits total.
His opponent, Jorge De La Rosa, did not fare as well. He gave up six runs on 11 hits in just four innings, walking a pair and striking out just one.
On his bobblehead day, Hanley Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run to lead the Dodgers offense.
The Rockies did get four innings of shutout baseball from Edgmer Escalona, Matt Belisle and Rex Brothers, who combined to allow just two hits and a walk while striking out six. The Los Angeles bullpen performed equally well, with Ronald Bellisario and Kenley Jansen throwing three shutout innings to seal Ryu's win.
The rubber game of the series is tomorrow night, with Juan Nicasio facing Josh Beckett.
