The Rockies' road woes have been widely noted. Their awfully solid all around performance in Milwaukee sure looked promising, but we have a long way to go. For now, the Rockies have 3 players (Cargo, Dex, Tulo) on the Fangraphs batting leaderboards. Nice to see after only playing road games. It's time, of course, to put that all in the small sample size library and focus on the task of winning baseball games at Coors Field.
Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post writes that the challenge of managing at Coors could be a daunting one for Walt Weiss. It can definitely be difficult to manage a pitching roster (the most important aspect of managing during the games) in a place that can eat pitchers like Shaq eating peeps. Already in the young season, Weiss' bullpen tactics have been a hotly contested topic here at Purple Row. It's early yet, but it looks like it could be a long and taxing year for the bullpen.
But if the Rockies keep raking (obviously they will slow down some) they will win plenty of home games. They are in the top 2 in BA, H, R, HR, SLG in the NL according to baseball-reference.com I still think the key to this team's success will be road performance.
The Rockies are getting the band back together! Having already assembled many of them on the coaching staff, the Rockies intend to honor the 1993 inaugural team this Friday during the home opener.
