I would just like to take a moment and point out that, for a few minutes today, the Colorado Rockies had the sole possession of first place in the NL West. Also, they won the home opener for the first time in three years! Superlative!
Jeff Francis' fine pitching performance demonstrated that his spring training was not a fluke, allowing 1 run on 5 hits and a walk. The Rockies offense powered their way to a win against former Rockie Jason Marquis.
Francis' only run came in the first inning, when Everth Cabrera scored on a Jesus Guzman single. He faced the minimum in the 4th and 5th inning, and struck out 5. Adam Ottavino and Rafael Betancourt also delivered fine performances.
The Rockies' first run came in the bottom of the third. Chris Nelson scored and Josh Rutledge reached base following a fielding error by Everth Cabrera. Troy Tulowitzki drove in a second run that inning with a double. Later, in the fourth, Wilin Rosario homered to left. This was only the 3rd pitch that he faced in the game. Thus far this season, Dexter Fowler has continued his solid performance during spring training as he hit his third home run of the year.

Come back tomorrow for round 2 against the Padres. According to the Rockies Probable Pitchers page, the team will have apparently have a second opportunity to beat up on Jason Marquis as Jon Garland takes the mound.
