Game Wrap: Rays 7, Rockies 4: Rockies go down in tenth to lose interleague opener

It is sort of like the Rockies offense forgot that baseball games go nine innings, instead of five. This memory loss, as well as an uncharacteristic outing from Matt Belisle, resulted in a 10-inning loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in the team's first game of interleague play.

First, the good news: The Rockies were able to peg Matt Moore with his worst start of the year. He gave up a home run to Michael Cuddyer and Josh Rutledge, allowed four runs in five innings, his shortest outing of the year. Nolan Arenado's performance was also noteworthy. He hit two doubles, one of them the game tying double in the fifth.

Adam Ottavino, Wilton Lopez, and Rex Brothers held the Tampa Bay offense scoreless in their collective four innings of work. Jeff Francis induced 11 ground-ball outs. Rex Brothers has not allowed a run since April 6th. The bullpen's performance was good enough to win the game had the offense been able to come through.

Now the bad news: Despite the fact that the Rockies were able to peg Moore with his worst start of the year, they were not able to score after the fifth inning. They were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Dexter Fowler exited the game after a collision at first and is listed as day-to-day.

Francis continues to not be the pitcher he was in spring training. In five innings of work, he gave up four runs on five hits, with one walk and three strikeouts. He gave up back to back doubles to Ryan Roberts and Ben Zobrist, and a 2 run homer to Desmond Jennings, his second of the year. Matt Belisle had his worst outing of the year and was credited with the loss. In the top of the 10th inning, he gave up a go-ahead single to Evan Longoria and a two run home run to Kelly Johnson, the first home run he has allowed this year.
