MLB scores: Nolan Arenado's walk-off single propels Rockies to 2-1 win over Giants

The Rockies earned another series victory over the Giants. Let's just swallow all pessimism for a little bit and bask in that.

The Colorado Rockies went 4-for-30 at the plate on Saturday, but thanks to a stellar effort from Jorge De La Rosa and the bullpen, it was enough to earn a series victory over the San Francisco Giants -- and enough to vault the Rox back into sole possession of second place in the National League West.

Nolan Arenado's single in the bottom of the ninth inning plated Josh Rutledge, giving the Rockies the victory on their first run since the first inning. That initial run came on an RBI single by Michael Cuddyer, extending his franchise-record hitting streak to 26 games.

Rutledge deserves some credit for a key stolen base to get into scoring position, but this victory was a result of the Rockies' stellar performance on the mound.

De La Rosa went six innings and allowed a run on six hits and a walk. He struck out four and induced seven groundouts en route to extending the Rockies' streak of impressive starting pitching on the current home stand. De La Rosa probably could have gone another inning if not for suffering a bruised left thumb. However, the injury should not keep him from making his next start.

Wilton Lopez, Josh Outman, Matt Belisle and Rafael Betancourt chipped in for three combined innings of scoreless ball in relief of De La Rosa, with Betancourt earning the victory in his first game off of the disabled list.

Matt Cain rebounded from a shaky start to pitch eight innings of one-run ball. He struck out five batters and allowed a run on just three hits. Unfortunately for Cain, San Francisco -- like the Rockies -- continued its miserable stretch at the plate.

The Rockies climbed to within two games of the first place Arizona Diamondbacks, who lost to the Atlanta Braves 11-5 on Saturday. Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres got smoked by the Miami Marlins 7-1, dropping them a half-game behind the Rockies.
