Drew Pomeranz will make his much anticipated season debut this afternoon against the Giants. For full coverage on Pomeranz check out Drew Creasman's Rockpile for today. To activate Pomeranz, the Rockies optioned reliever Rob Scahill back to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Pomeranz was a mixed bag in the minors this season, sometimes dazzling and often times leaving more to be desired, still he seems to present an upgrade to Juan Nicasio at this point and with Pomeranz's potential it's hard to argue giving him a shot to prove himself with a rotation spot up for grabs. In his career against San Francisco, Pomeranz sports a 1-1 record with a 5.28 ERA. Current Giants are just 5-25 against Pomeranz in their career's with Buster Posey and Hunter Pence each owning a home run off of the lefty.

For San Francisco, Madison Bumgarner (7-5 3.20 ERA) will take toe the rubber. Bumgarner has been terrific this year and has easily been their best starter. Bumgarner is 6-4 in his career against Colorado with a 3.12 ERA. His last start against Colorado was easily the worst of the year for Bumgarner as he managed just 4 2/3 innings while giving up nine runs. Similar success against Bumgarner this time out would certainly bode well for Pomeranz and the Rockies.

Dexter Fowler will once again be out of the lineup as Tyler Colvin takes his spot in CF. A DL stint may be on the horizon for Fowler as he continues to miss time with his injured finger.
