Triple-A: Colorado Springs 4-2 L (50-43)
Chris Volstad went seven innings and allowed four runs while falling to 5-2 on the season. Volstad walked two and gave up seven hits. Steven Hensley relieved him with two scoreless innings, but the offense managed just two runs in the loss.
Tim Wheeler and Hernan Iribarren each had two hits, but the Sky Sox had just eight knocks overall. Only one run was earned for the Sky Sox and as a team they went 1-for-9 with RISP.
Double-A: Tulsa 3-2 L (41-47)
Tim Gustafson worked six solid innings and allowed just two runs. Newly-acquired Mitchell Boggs pitched a perfect inning in relief with a strikeout. The Rockies could really use some relief help right now so hopefully Boggs is ready soon.
Tulsa scratched across two runs on six hits, including one in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough. Joey Wong was 2-for-4 with his 13th RBI, but like Colorado Springs, the offense struggled for Tulsa.
Class A Advanced: Modesto 9-6 L (45-47)
Eddie Butler got knocked around in 3.2 innings as he surrendered six hits, three walks and seven runs. Just three were earned, but Butler still struggled and served up two home runs. Butler fell to 3-3 with a 3.08 ERA.
The offense was efficient scoring six runs on six hits, although three runs Modesto scored were unearned. Brian Humphries connected for his sixth home run of the campaign and Jared Simon was 2-for-4.
Class A: Game 1, Asheville 3-2 W (46-40) Game 2, 5-2 W (47-40)
Asheville won the first game of a doubleheader 3-2 thanks to a team effort that saw five pitchers combine to give up just two runs. Ryan Arrowood picked up the win with four innings of work in relief. He struck out eight and gave up just one run in moving to 5-0 on the season.
Tom Murphy was 2-for-4 and drove in his 66th run and Dillon Thomas was 3-for-4 batting in the two-hole for the Tourists.
In Game 2, both starters pitched complete games, and although the game was only seven innings, Asheville starter Ben Hughes was excellent as he allowed just two runs, one earned, on seven hits. He struck out three and did not walk a batter while improving to 7-7.
Francisco Sosa hit his 12th home run and Ben Waldrip his first in his first game with Asheville.
Class A Short-Season: Tri-City 6-4 L (11-16)
Jonathan Vargas fell to 1-1 on the season as he allowed three runs in five innings of work. Bruce Kern worked a scoreless ninth and ran his scoreless streak to start the year to 11 innings.
Tri-City had just four hits. Kyle Von Tungeln and Patrick Hutcheson both doubled while Sean Dwyer tripled. The other hit was a single from Michael Tauchman.
Rookie: DSL Rockies 3-2 W (18-16)
Javier Palacios worked five innings and gave up just one run on three hits. He was relieved by Carlos Polanco who got the win with four innings of one-run relief.
The DSL Rockies walked off on a Denzel Richardson solo shot in the ninth, his second home run of the season.
Rookie: Grand Junction 2-2 Suspended in bottom of the ninth due to rain
Zach Jemiola pitched six innings surrendering just one unearned run to go along with seven strikeouts. The offense got two runs to tie it in the eighth on Robbie Perkins two-out, two-run home run. The game will be completed today.
