There's just something about being at the back end of the Colorado Rockies' starting rotation.
Less than a week after Drew Pomeranz's latest subpar outing, his replacement scuffled through hittability and inefficiency en route to another loss on the Rockies' current 10-game homestand.
Collin McHugh, who was making his first start since joining the Rockies in June, was roughed up for six runs on nine hits in five innings of work. After he exited the game with the Rockies trailing, 6-0, Colorado put four on the board in the sixth inning, three of which came via a home run off the bat of Wilin Rosario, his first long ball in July.
Milwaukee added a run on a solo homer in the seventh, served up by Adam Ottavino to Jonathan Lucroy. Troy Tulowitzki got the run back with a home run of his own against John Axford, but the Rockies were unable to add anything else against Brewers closer Jim Henderson in the bottom of the ninth inning after a rain delay that lasted an hour and 45 minutes.
McHugh joins Pomeranz, Jon Garland, Jeff Francis and Roy Oswalt as guys who had little to no success at the back end of the Rockies' rotation. It's not the largest hole on the team, but it's a pretty gaping one nonetheless.
Tulowitzki had three hits in the losing effort while Rosario chipped in a pair.
The first-place Los Angeles Dodgers secured another victory earlier on Saturday, meaning the Rockies are now six games back in the National League West.
