After surrendering a five-run lead en route to a 9-8 loss in last night's series opener, the Colorado Rockies will turn to Juan Nicasio to right the ship tonight against the Atlanta Braves.
Nicasio has been excellent so far in July, allowing just one run on eight hits in three starts this months. He has walked four and struck out 15 in 19 innings pitched in July. Overall, this will be Nicasio's 20th start of the 2013 season, he has a 4.40 ERA in 100 1/3 innings in the first 19.
The Braves will counter with rookie Alex Wood. The 22-year-old right-hander was Atlanta's second round pick in the 2012 draft and has been primarily used out of the bullpen this season. Tonight will be Wood's third career MLB start, he as allowed five earned runs in 7 1/3 innings in his first two starts of 2013 and has a 3.42 ERA in 26 1/3 MLB innings overall this season.
The Rockies have the same position players in the lineup as last night's game, but have flipped Wilin Rosario and Todd Helton in the batting order, with Rosario batting sixth and Helton seventh.
Brian McCann returns to the Atlanta lineup, with Evan Gattis moving to left field tonight.
