MLB Scores: Diamondbacks 6, Rockies 1

New, comments

The Rockies were swept away in Arizona with another disappointing performance. Roy Oswalt left in the second inning with what appeared to be a hamstring injury and the Rockies bats were kept silent once again.

Scoring runs on the road is proving to be difficult of late for the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies scored just one run in another lackluster defeat in Arizona. Jonathan Herrera hit his first home run of the year in the eighth, but it was all the Rockies could manage. With no disrespect meant towards Herrera, if he is your only offense, then your team is in trouble.

Of course, facing dominant lefty Patrick Corbin didn't help much either. Corbin worked eight dominant innings with 10 strikeouts and only one walk. The Rockies managed just three hits and struck out 12 times on the afternoon. Diamondbacks starters pitched eight innings in all three games. In 24 innings they struck out 20, walked only three, and surrendered just 11 hits. Carlos Gonzalez provided five of those hits in just two games played. So, a combined six hits came from the rest of the lineup in three games.

The pitching wasn't much better for Colorado. Roy Oswalt seemed to have good stuff working for him today, but before he even got a chance to demonstrate it he got injured. Oswalt pulled up lame covering home plate on a wild pitch that allowed Eric Chavez to score with two outs in the second inning. Depending on the severity of the injury, it coud be all she wrote for Oswalt. Here's to hoping that's not the case.

Edgmer Escalona was forced to come into the game and he gave up three runs in 2.1 innings. Josh Outman pitched 2 innings and gave up two runs before Matt Belisle and Rex Brothers finished off the game with a scoreless inning a piece.

It was a bad game, a bad series, and a bad start to the road trip. The Rockies take on San Diego tomorrow night to kick off a three game set at Petco. If you think the Rockies are reeling, well just be glad you aren't a Padres fan as they are losers of nine straight. Something's gotta give! Hopefully, the Rockies rebound tomorrow.
