Game 90 Preview: Chatwood vs. Volquez

New, comments

The Rockies will look to snap their three game losing streak tonight against the Padres.

Despite the Rockies struggles on the road over the years, there's always been one place where they tend to play pretty well when they are a competitive team - Petco Park.

When Colorado jumped out of the gate to a 13-4 start, the rule held true as the Rockies swept the Padres in a three game set in their first matchup in San Diego this season. Here's the Rockies record in San Diego during Colorado's three most recent winning seasons.

2010: 7-2

2009: 5-4

2007: 5-4

However, this trend will really be put to the test tonight for three reasons.

1) The Rockies have not shown they are a good team recently. In fact they have been downright awful since they lost Troy Tulowitzki and Dexter Fowler. They have lost three in a row, six out of seven, and 14 of their last 19.

2) The Padres have been excellent at home overall this season despite the Colorado sweep in April. They are 25-18 on the season in Petco Park

3) The Colorado lineup is without Troy Tulowitzki, Dexter Fowler, and Carlo Gonzalez.

The healthy Rockies will oppose Edinson Volquez who, to put it nicely, has not been good this season.
