After a 4-2 win behind a solid pitching effort from Tyler Chatwood last night, the Rockies (43-47) will look to wrap up a series win in San Diego tonight as Jhoulys Chacin takes the mound against Eric Stults and the Padres (40-50).
Chacin enters his 17th start of the season with a 3.74 ERA in 101 innings, adding up to an 8-3 record. He has a career-low 2.8 walks per nine innings thus far in 2013, a big contribution to his success. He has been significantly better on the road than at home this year, with a 2.05 ERA in five road starts, and has a 3.38 career ERA against the Padres.
His opponent on the mound tonight will be Eric Stults, who has made 18 starts in 2013 with a 3.70 ERA in 112 innings. He has a 2.85 ERA at Petco Park this season and a 4.02 ERA in his career against the Rockies.
Carlos Gonzalez will miss his second straight game for the Rockies, with Nolan Arenado getting a day off as well. That means all three of DJ LeMahieu, Jonathan Herrera and Josh Rutledge get starts, as does Charlie Blackmon.
Kyle Blanks gets a start in right field for San Diego, moving Will Venable to center field and Alexi Amarista into the infield at second base. Nick Hundley also gets a start behind the plate.
