Padres 2, Rockies 1: Lackluster lineup gives a lackluster performance

Without Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez, Dexter Fowler and Nolan Arenado in the lineup, it was always going to be difficult for the Rockies to score tonight, but they managed just a single tally in the ninth inning of a 2-1 loss to the Padres.

Eric Stults tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts in 122 pitches. He didn't allow a hit until Josh Rutledge's infield single in the fifth inning.

Jhoulys Chacin didn't put together a bad effort himself, allowing a run on five hits in six innings with a pair of walks and four strikeouts. It took him 97 pitches to get through the six innings.

The Padres got their only run against Chacin in the third when Alexi Amarista tripled home Everth Cabrera, who had reached on a fielder's choice. Wilton Lopez entered the game in the seventh and promptly allowed a double and three singles, surrendering San Diego's second run.

Wilin Rosario got his second hit of the game with a one-out double in the ninth and came around to score on Arenado's pinch hit single, but the Rockies were unable to even the score, dropping a 2-1 decision.
